JUNIOR DATA ENGINEER

General Purpose

As a Junior Data Engineer in the EU Digital Analytics team at adidas, you will be part of a highly

engaged, multinational agile team, in charge of creating and enhancing digital data products,

reporting to the Senior Manager Data Foundation who is in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and closely

partnering with the community of data analysts and data engineers in our Gurgaon Tech Hub. You

will be responsible for creating and maintaining the EU Digital data assets and data pipelines in our Global Data Lakehouse. These data assets will be used by the EU Digital Analysts and Data

Scientists to generate predictive models and business insights that help adidas understand

consumer behavior, financial performance, and traffic performance to ultimately help drive sales.

Those assets will also be used by other teams in EU eCom to run and support their processes

(Finance, SCM, Trading etc.)

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering

  • Develop Data pipelines using Apache Spark in the AWS environment.
  • Create Fact Tables to be used by the Analytics team in Databricks Lakehouse.
  • Code in SQL, Python and/or Scala.
  • Automate processes by implementing CI/CD in Jenkins.
  • Have the passion and ability to write clean, readable, well-designed, and well-documented code along with tests.
  • Participate in all Sprint Rituals in collaboration with the EU eCom team in Amsterdam and
  • the data engineers in our Gurgaon tech hub

Reporting & Monitoring

  • Help implement new reporting structures within your area of responsibility.
  • Ensure data accuracy, timeliness and quality across the outputs provided.
  • Monitor the health of critical data pipelines and set up automated structure to do so.

Key Relationships

Your peers & direct stakeholders are split across India, The Netherlands and Germany. You will

primarily interact with the EU eCom team split across Amsterdam and Gurgaon. Other stakeholders might include:

Soft-Skills

  • A love for sports and the brand

  • Ability to understand and translate complex business requirement into technical ones

Hard-Skills

  • Track record of developing true Big Data pipelines in Python/PySpark and/or Scala
  • Extensive experience in ETL tools (e.g. Bitbucket, GitHub, Databricks, Snowflake, Jenkins,
  • Alteryx, etc.) supported by the involvement in various projects/workstreams in which these tools are used for automation
  • Knowledge about Agile ways of working & SCRUM setups
  • Fluent in English both verbally and written
  • Proficiency in SQL language
  • Experience with Atlassian Tools (JIRA, Confluence, BitBucket) is a plus
  • Any Experience with Databricks is a strong plus
  • Experience with Clickstream data is a plus

Education & Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information
  • Technology, or similar field of study. A master’s degree is a plus.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in data engineering, ideally in an agile environment (e.g.
  • Scrum).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, strong hands-on mentality.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Experience in an eCommerce environment is a plus.
