Job Description:

The Cabin Design Engineer supports the development, customization, and continuous evolution of aircraft cabin and cargo interiors/payloads for airline customers. Working under general direction at an intermediate to advanced professional level, the engineer autonomously performs routine to moderate levels of engineering design, analysis, and data integration from initial conceptual phase to final product installation.

Key responsibilities are balanced across providing technical oversight of cabin and cargo suppliers to ensure delivery of integrated engineering solutions meeting technical requirements, ensuring cabin and cargo equipment design data can be certified with all necessary test and qualification data, and developing solutions for complex engineering problems requiring judgement and ingenuity.

Your working environment:

The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations and services of all product types across the globe.

Your challenge:

  • Design Integration & Maturation: Autonomously perform routine to moderate levels of design solution development.
  • Complex Technical Support: Provide real-time engineering support to engineering processes and suggest modifications regarding the design and development of aircraft cabins and components/systems.
  • Qualification and Supplier Oversight: Lead the qualification of cabin and cargo design solutions, providing technical oversight to suppliers to ensure compliance to engineering principles, regulatory standards, and customer requirements.
  • Qualification and Compliance: Review, evaluate and secure engineering compliance documents from suppliers to support technical and airworthiness approval. This includes checking Qualification Plans, Test Reports and Declarations of Design and Performance (DDP) for technical accuracy and alignment with requirements.
  • Project & Deliverable Management: Accept broad objectives with agreed deadlines regarding component integration and qualification, establishing the tasks required and how they should be completed. Independently drive suppliers to ensure high-quality and timely delivery of engineering documents (test plans, test reports, certification data).
  • Identify and support local improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency through process, methods, and tools improvements.
  • Other responsibilities and ad-hoc engineering support as assigned.

Your boarding pass:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Minimum nine (9) years of experience in design, analysis, and systems/structural integration, and qualification of cabin interiors, monuments, furnishings, or systems.
  • Experience participating in the review and tracking of supplier technical compliance documentation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of aircraft design, systems engineering methods, processes and deliverables.
  • Frequently uses widely known technical principles, theories, and concepts to solve technical problems.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex engineering processes, and to extract information from those processes to include timescales, enablers and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience handling configuration management, engineering change tracking, or part structures within an aerospace Design Office environment.
  • Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment both independently and collectively.
  • Dependable, self-motivated and accessible.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Basic knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to aircraft design, certification and maintenance.
  • Capable of creating and delivering technical documents and presentations without guidance.
  • Strong computer background, including Google Suite application experience (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail).
  • Authorized to work in US.

Preferred experience:

  • Working knowledge of cabin interior product or systems development.

  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving. Daily
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor. Daily
