Head of Data Governance
Allianz
Barcelona, Spain
About the Job:
We are looking for a highly experienced, strategically minded Head of Data Governance to join our Data, Reporting & Analytics organization. In this leadership role, you will define, drive, and elevate Allianz Technology’s global Data Governance agenda to ensure our data is managed, trusted, high‑quality, and used responsibly across the enterprise. You will partner closely with cross‑functional leaders, and technical teams to embed strong governance, uphold Corporate Rules, and ensure compliant document lifecycle management, including legally mandated retention and autodeletion. Are you passionate about ensuring that data is governed with the highest standards? If so, we are looking for you.
What You Do:
- Define and execute the enterprise Data Governance strategy in alignment with Allianz Technology’s priorities, ensuring governance principles directly enable business value, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance, while implementing and continuously evolving the Data Governance Framework, including the target operating model, policies, and standards.
- Maintain and enhance data governance documentation, including the Business Glossary, Data Catalog, and lineage, within the designated data management platforms, and track, enforce, and periodically reassess data ownership, stewardship, and accountability structures across functions and domains to strengthen enterprise-wide clarity and responsibility.
- Establish data quality metrics, KPIs, and automated monitoring processes to ensure high‑quality, reliable, and trustworthy data assets, driving root‑cause analysis and systematic remediation initiatives in collaboration with data stewards and application owners, and demonstrate measurable ROI of data quality initiatives through improved operational efficiency, reduced risk, and enhanced decision‑making.
- Partner with Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Security teams to ensure alignment with data privacy, access control, and data classification requirements, maintaining audit readiness by conducting periodic checks, risk assessments, and control assessments as part of non‑financial risk management for data and document lifecycle management.
- Introduce and scale innovative approaches, including automation and GenAI capabilities, to streamline governance processes such as metadata management, data quality monitoring, documentation generation, and policy enforcement, identifying opportunities where GenAI can reduce manual overhead in governance tasks (e.g., automated lineage suggestions, intelligent quality alerts, policy summarization, or risk detection).
- Promote an AI‑first mindset by embedding tools, workflows, and platforms that accelerate the maturity and effectiveness of the Data Governance function, serving as a trusted advisor to functional and technology stakeholders, ensuring consistent adoption of Data Governance best practices across Allianz Technology.
- Drive a data‑literate and governance‑aware culture by supporting high‑quality training programs, communications, and awareness campaigns, and facilitate and elevate data governance community forums to align on standards, share insights, and continuously evolve practices.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or a related field, with 8-10 years of experience in data governance and data management, and proven experience in leading and implementing data governance frameworks in large, complex, enterprise environments.
- Strong knowledge of data governance principles, master data management (MDM), and data lifecycle management, with familiarity with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, or similar) and experience with regulatory compliance frameworks related to Data and AI (GDPR, EU AI Act, etc.).
- Certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional), DCAM, or equivalent, along with awareness of cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern data stack technologies, and exposure to AI/ML governance and responsible AI practices would be an added advantage.
- Analytical thinking to assess complex data landscapes and identify governance gaps, with collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with technical and functional teams, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Leadership skills to influence global teams without direct authority and drive organizational change, adaptability to change and new ways of working, and proactive contribution to innovation and continuous process improvements.
- Basic knowledge of AI technologies, principles, and their practical use.
