Autodesk Fusion Manufacturing seeks a passionate and experienced Software Development Manager to lead a team of smart and highly motivated software engineers who support, enhance and deliver CAM Post Kernels. A post kernel is a part of a post-processor which uses a set of parameters to convert tool trajectories generated by Fusion CAM into a set of commands specific for a target machine.

You have a strong understanding of the agile "servant-leader" role and will be able to balance acting as the manager with encouraging the team towards a culture of self-organization and ownership of the work and processes. They will be working with product managers, architects, product owners, scrum masters, developers, quality assurance engineers and user experience designers, to collaboratively deliver changes required to ensure our customers' machines are driven safely and accurately with minimal effort.

You will report to the Director of Engineering.

The team work in a Hybrid working model, based from our office in Birmingham.

Responsibilities

  • Support, encourage and assist the members of an agile team. Use your experience and skills to help them with both technical and non-technical challenges.
  • Mentor and coach software engineers, identify opportunities for individuals to grow within their role, including opportunities for training, challenging assignments, and new collaboration.
  • Regularly communicate with team members, provide feedback, conduct performance evaluation and compensation reviews.
  • Work closely with product managers to set high-level goals and produce quarterly/yearly roadmaps. Organize and drive software development activities to continually make progress accordingly to the roadmap.
  • Work with the product owner, scrum master and other stakeholders to help the team deliver working software every sprint and release capabilities at regular intervals.
  • Create an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture. Foster continuous improvement and iteration.
  • Be the spokesperson for the team and champion its accomplishments and struggles with management, stakeholders and adjacent teams.
  • Maintain a competent level of technical expertise to work effectively with team members and the broader Autodesk technical community.
  • Guide the implementation of individual components and features with an emphasis on producing high quality, reusable software through the use of test-driven development and other sound software engineering practices.
  • Be a "playing coach" and lead the team by example producing high quality software yourself .

Minimum qualifications

  • BS, MS or PhD – Engineering or Computer Science is a typical qualification, but we are open to candidates who took other paths to the world of software engineering.
  • 3+ years of formal or informal leadership experience – we'd like to see that you can inspire and influence others, even if it was not in an official manager role.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with scrum and agile development processes, methodologies and tools.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience working in software development teams. Technical background working on medium to large systems.
  • Strong senior- or principal-level software development skills, with proficiency in one or more of C++/Objective-C/C, Java, JavaScript, Kotlin, Swift, and C#. Experience with scripting languages like Python, Perl, and similar is a plus.
  • Excellent debugging, testing, and technical problem-solving skills and aptitude to learn new technologies and methodologies.
  • Experience in the areas of CAD, CAM, CNC machine tools, CNC controllers, NC code (G-code), and CAM post processing is a plus.
