Position Overview
As we transition from a world of files to that of products powered by cloud data services, we’re building our core underlying cloud fabric and kernel that is comprised of massively scalable, always-on, globally-deployed cloud services that underpin our customer facing systems. These services will enable user experiences, workflows and integrations that will fundamentally change how our customers interact with data.
We are seeking a highly proficient Principal Software Engineer to help in building our data platform. The successful candidate should have a strong sense of ownership and be able to drive projects through completion. They should be well versed in modern cloud architecture and infrastructure development, and should have driven key technical initiatives to successful implementations.
Responsibilities
Engage in technical and architectural discussions and decision making to shape the future of making things
Lead planning, design, development, and testing of key features/functions delivered via applications and services
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements, understand use cases and build towards a cohesive technical strategy
Build strategic partnerships with key cross-organizational teams to ensure that your application/service leverages capabilities offered by the platform
Uphold team standards by championing engineering best practices
Hands on software development for products that will perform at scale, be supportable, and be extensible
Write code that is tested, readable, and maintainable
Perform code reviews, evaluate implementations, and provide feedback for tool improvements
Automate processes where possible and create new technologies when needed
Cross-train and mentor teammates
Participate in on-call rotation to support production systems
Minimum Qualifications
Great team player with about 8 to 12 years of total industry experience
6+ years of hands-on software development experience in Java, Spring
5+ years of production experience in large-scale cloud-based Infrastructure (AWS preferred)
3+ years of experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, preferably DynamoDB and MySQL/Aurora
Experience consuming, designing, and implementing REST APIs
Working knowledge of build automation and CI/CD pipelines
Experience working with container based solutions
Experience building apps on AWS using services such as S3, DynamoDB, IAM, EC2, Cloudwatch and Lambda
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building GraphQL APIs and infrastructure
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
Experience with Agile software development practices
