Where the chemistry happens…

BASF’s Petrochemical division is the starting point of BASF's petrochemical value creation worldwide, also known as “the heart of the Verbund,” representing the world's largest chemical markets. Together, let us keep the heart beating one creative solution at a time!

As the Site Director for the Pasadena site, you will lead a highly regulated and complex chemical manufacturing operation with full accountability for safety, compliance, and business performance. You will be responsible for a significant site operating budget, with full accountability for cost performance and financial discipline. You will lead and develop a team of approximately 60 employees, including shift personnel and direct reports across EHS, production, technology, maintenance, asset management, laboratory, quality, and site services.

Come create chemistry with us!

As a Pasadena Site Director, you create chemistry by...

  • Owning the site’s license to operate by ensuring full compliance with all environmental permits, regulatory requirements, and Responsible Care standards, recognizing that compliance failures can directly impact production continuity.
  • Driving a strong EHS culture and operational risk management, with focus on critical systems such as flare reliability, emergency response readiness, and incident prevention.
  • Leading and developing a high-performing leadership team and broader organization of ~60 employees, fostering ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Establishing strong leadership cadences and governance systems, ensuring KPI ownership, performance transparency, and disciplined execution across all site functions.
  • Representing BASF externally as the accountable site leader, managing relationships with regulators, community stakeholders, and key partners (e.g., site infrastructure providers), ensuring trust and compliance.
  • Leading and governing process safety and compliance systems, including RC audits, PSM/RMP programs, regulatory reporting, and permit renewals, ensuring disciplined execution and continuous audit readiness.
  • Managing a large-scale manufacturing operation with full accountability for site performance, including operating costs and capital investments.
  • Overseeing and prioritizing an annual CapEx investment portfolio to support reliability, compliance, and long-term competitiveness.

If you...

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, or a related technical field, along with significant experience in chemical manufacturing or other high-hazard industrial environments.
  • Bring deep expertise in process safety, environmental compliance, and regulatory frameworks, with proven accountability for maintaining a site’s license to operate.
  • Demonstrate strong business acumen, with experience managing large and complex operating budgets and driving cost efficiency and asset performance.
  • Have a track record of leading organizations of comparable size and complexity, successfully managing multidisciplinary teams and developing leaders.
  • Are confident engaging with a broad range of stakeholders, including regulators, community representatives, and external partners.
  • Bring a results-driven mindset with the ability to lead transformation, strengthen competitiveness, and sustain long-term operational excellence in complex environments.
