We are seeking a motivated and talented Junior Infrastructure DevOps Automation Engineer to join our dynamic Engineering & Observability team.

In this role, you will assist our current Infrastructure DevOps Automation Engineer with various project-related tasks, helping to drive innovation and efficiency within our infrastructure. This position offers a unique opportunity to broaden your technical skillset while contributing to a diverse and inclusive team environment. You will report directly to our Engineering & Observability Manager, gaining valuable experience and mentorship in a supportive and collaborative setting.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support, optimise, and continuously improve our existing automation stacks.

  • Assist in developing automated integrations with Jira and ServiceNow.

  • Help identify and resolve operational gaps within Infrastructure Operations through enhanced automation.

  • Contribute to ongoing infrastructure initiatives aimed at enhancing our infrastructure estate.

  • Support Security Operations initiatives to strengthen our security posture.

  • Identify infrastructure incidents and ensure rapid response, isolation, and remediation.

  • Assist with the development of our bespoke platforms.

  • Help the Engineering & Observability team achieve internal goals and strategies.

  • Ensure DevOps services and components are designed, tested, debugged, verified, and maintained in production deployments across Penguin Random House UK.

What you’ll bring

Essential criteria:

  • Some experience with a scripting language such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

  • Familiarity with deploying Docker containers.

  • A modern, engineering-focused mindset.

  • A desire to develop and enhance your DevOps skills.

  • A passion for automation to create efficiencies across our infrastructure.

  • Clear and concise communication skills.

  • Self-motivation, drive, and proactivity.

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure with proven problem-solving skills.

  • A commitment to continuous improvement and teamwork, ensuring the safety of our infrastructure ecosystem.

  • Logical problem-solving approach with the ability to influence key business stakeholders.

Preferred criteria:

  • Previous employment in a related technology role, such as Junior System Administrator, IT Support Technician, or a DevOps Internship or Apprenticeship.

  • Experience using GIT for version control.

Salary: £36,500 - £40,000 on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.

Hybrid working

While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important.
