Job Description
The i4.0 Engineer will lead the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of advanced manufacturing IT systems and digitalization initiatives across the production environment. This role is accountable for driving strategic digital transformation, leading cross-functional project teams, and aligning with global i4.0 standards to ensure technology solutions deliver measurable operational impact. A strong emphasis is placed on project leadership, stakeholder management, and enabling data-driven decision-making.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Serve as the technical lead and project manager for strategic i4.0 initiatives, overseeing the planning, execution, and integration of digital systems, including MES, IT shopfloor solutions, and industrial analytics platforms.
- Align i4.0 implementation with corporate and global directives, ensuring compliance with ITM policies and Bosch production standards.
- Lead the deployment of Connected Industry and Industry 4.0 solutions, from initial concept to plant-wide rollout, in collaboration with PLC engineers, system integrators, and operations teams.
- Act as the main point of contact for local and international stakeholders regarding i4.0 project status, escalations, and technology roadmaps.
- Lead the continuous improvement and scalability of MES platforms to support predictive maintenance, AI/ML projects, digital twins, and traceability use cases.
- Collaborate with plant leadership to identify digital opportunities that reduce downtime, optimize processes, and drive business KPIs.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and training to junior engineers and production associates on new i4.0 technologies and tools.
- Support plant-wide digital maturity assessments and contribute to the long-term i4.0 strategy.
- Prepare and present executive-level project updates, justifications, and ROI reports to plant and corporate leadership.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in industrial IT or production engineering, with at least 2 years leading digitalization or MES projects.
- Strong project management skills, including scope definition, stakeholder engagement, scheduling, and risk management.
- Proven experience deploying MES solutions and integrating with shopfloor control systems (PLC, SCADA, OPC UA).
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure including Windows/Linux OS, SQL/MySQL/Oracle databases, virtualization, and network architecture.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; capable of influencing diverse stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); German and Spanish language skills are an asset.
