Serving the U.S. Federal government, state and local governments, education, and publicly funded healthcare, we provide senior technical expertise, deep knowledge of the public sector domain, and a strong dedication to the missions of this unique group of customers.

The Software Consulting Engineer position supports and delivers Automation Software Consulting services to Cisco's Tier 1 Customers in the US Public Sector market. You will be "Cisco's face to the customer," working in a fast-paced, high-impact environment as a visible contributor delivering on our commitments. The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver, comfortable with challenging the status quo, and able to respond to raised issues rapidly. With a seasoned mix of broad networking knowledge, specific area expertise, and excellent customer relationship skills, you're well-positioned to become a trusted advisor capable of building solid, long-term customer relationships. This position requires a motivated, experienced Customer Delivery Software Consulting Engineer to support Automation and Cloud Operations in a large strategic enterprise organization aligned with daring ground-breaking agendas.

The Automation team comprises geographically dispersed engineers that design, architect, and support work on critical networks with innovative Cisco solutions. This team is leading the way in providing foundational engineering and operations support with the expectation for networks and data centers to perform at the highest possible levels. We work with our customers to prepare their infrastructure for future architectures and solutions and assist them in navigating through proof of concepts and introduction. Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills are traits of successful consultants in this organization. We are strongly focused on continuous development and training on new products/technologies that keep us in a leading position as industry network consulting leaders.

As part of this team, you will work directly with our customers and gain hands-on experience and exposure to their networks. You will collaborate on a variety of projects that have a real impact on our nation’s security. We will value your ideas and perspective on how to get things done. You will work on network infrastructures and help deliver business and technology solutions from data, security, mobility, and cloud.

Minimum Qualifications

Please note, if selected to interview, you will be given a technical assessment during the initial phase of the interview process. The assessment captures the level of proficiency for each skill and will assist us with understanding which are new skills and which ones you have mastered.

  • Experienced with Docker, Linux, Kubernetes, and Networking Concepts
  • Experience with software integration with Web Service APIs (SOAP/REST), XML, JSON, and NETCONF
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to function effectively in ambiguous circumstances
  • Successfully communicates difficult concepts. Guides, influences and persuades others either internally and externally
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Cisco DevNet certification is preferred

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S. or Canada hiring location. U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community. Employees are also able to purchase company stock through our Employee Stock Purchase Program.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
