Duo Security, now part of Cisco, is the leading multi-factor authentication (MFA) and Zero Trust Security solutions provider. Duo were built with cloud-native technologies from the ground up and is a high-scale SaaS-only solution running on AWS.

Our mission is simple: modernize security by making it easy and effective for everyone. We are transforming security from the ground up by solving the world’s most pressing geopolitical challenge — safe, secure information access through Zero Trust Security solutions. We use a human-centric product design approach to reduce the complexity and create solutions that are simple to use.

Our work culture is defined by values of “Being more thoughtful than vital”, “Learning together”, “Engineering the business” and celebrating diversity of perspectives. A positive and intellectually cultivating environment for employees is the reason Cisco has won the “Best Company to work for” three years in a row and earned us the title of “The most loved security company” given by our customers.

Our engineers at all levels lead projects and bring our teams along with them. We value inclusion, empower autonomy, and emphasize software craftsmanship. You embody our values and development culture of collaboration, democracy, testing, CI/CD, data-driven decisions, and mentorship. We prioritize team success and tend to swarm on sprint work to meet our shared goals.

What You’ll Do...

  • We invite you to join our growing Platform Engineering group to create the systems that are foundational in supporting our rapidly expanding global customer base. You will be a part of our global Duo Security engineering team within Cisco’s Security Business Group (SBG).
  • Our team members get to work on various aspects of our service from the platform architecture to end-user-facing features.
  • The teams within the Platform Engineering group have three distinct focus areas:
  • Duo Administration: Building the service and features that are used by end users to configure and deploy the Duo service to implement Zero Trust Security in their environment. This team is embarking on an exciting journey to completely redesign the administration experience for our customers on a new platform they are building.
  • Customer Systems: Building systems for a global Cisco workforce for handling Duo customers, generating data flows to feed the business intelligence workflows, and improving the customer experience with e-commerce platforms through which they transact with Duo. This team is working on a great opportunity to create a product experience that will enable Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to scale up their customer base.
  • Platform architecture: Creating application-level platform solutions like additional levels of security for integration of services based on Kafka and SQS, intelligent rate limiters for endpoints, and numerous services used by end users and other product teams to build out Zero Trust Security solutions.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree (or above) in computer science or related field with 10+ years of overall software engineering experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in system design, development, and delivery of highly scalable distributed multi-tenant SaaS products using AWS (preferred), Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure.
  • You are highly skilled in Cloud Native Architecture, Microservices Architecture, and Event Driven Architecture.
  • Experience with streaming services such as MSK & SQS.
  • Experience with AppDynamics, Grafana, Kibana, Data Dog, and other observability tools.
  • Experience with Redis, Elasticache, and SQL/NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with asynchronous programming patterns.
  • Experience with using Python or other modern languages, front-end technologies, libraries, and frameworks (JavaScript, React etc.).
  • 5+ years of experience working in Agile/Scrum environment and standard methodologies like TDD, Code Reviews, and ownership of Automated tests to ensure quality.
  • Experience in automated deployment pipelines and DevOps standard processes.
  • Strong fundamentals of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and async programming.

Nice to have:

  • You are known to be a pragmatic programmer and problem solver; you can deliver results while not succumbing to analysis paralysis or over complication.
  • You value team success the most and will swarm with your peers to meet our shared goals. As part of an inclusive team, you champion all teammates regardless of level or background.
  • Have a history of empathizing with users and delivering solutions that meet their problems where they are.
  • A validated understanding of security best practices in web development
  • Experience with configuring, testing, and validating cloud infrastructure and applications.
  • Demonstrable experience with any of the following: WebAuthn, OIDC (OpenID Connect), SAML, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, Git

3 Reasons why you should apply:

  • You flourish with having the autonomy to operate in a substantial problem space solving real problems for real people.
  • You work best within an insightful team that is passionate about a common goal.
  • You are happy when your end-users are happy and frustrated when they are frustrated.

If this role and the security field are exciting to you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet 100% of the description or qualifications. If you have been an effective technical contributor to software projects and can show consistent examples of having led others, regardless of role or title, apply.

Message to applicants applying to work in the U.S. and/or Canada:

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S. or Canada hiring location. The recruiter can share more details about compensation for the role in your location during the hiring process.

U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community. Employees are also able to purchase company stock through our Employee Stock Purchase Program.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
