The Security Visibility & Incident Command (SVIC) team provides visibility into security and compliance, performs incident response, and drives root cause analysis to improve Cisco’s security posture.

SVIC serves Cisco and its business entities to detect, respond, and mitigate security incidents, improve compliance and security posture, as well as ensure Cisco meets its regulatory and contractual obligations for data loss notification​.

Job Overview

As a Senior Software Integration Engineer, you will design and build complex integrated systems in a cloud-first, security-focused environment. You will collaborate closely with security investigators and analysts to design, develop, and manage robust software solutions that enhance security operations. Your role will involve applying your experience in Python development, API creation, Splunk, Linux, and cloud-based software integration to ensure robust and secure communication between systems, with a focus on supporting security investigations and analyses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Security-Focused Cloud Integration: Lead the design, development, and implementation of secure software integration solutions within AWS environments, ensuring seamless communication between cloud-native and on-premise systems tailored to security operations.
  • API Development: Architect and develop secure RESTful APIs to facilitate efficient data exchange between cloud services and security systems.
  • Cloud Monitoring & Splunk Usage: Use Splunk and other cloud monitoring tools for data analysis, monitoring, and troubleshooting in a security context, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of data.
  • Ticket Management Integration: Integrate cloud-based solutions with ticketing solutions such as ServiceNow or Jira, customizing workflows and automating security processes.
  • Linux Administration: Manage and optimize Linux-based environments within cloud infrastructures to support secure software integration and deployment processes.
  • Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers in secure cloud-based integration practices, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Identify and resolve complex cloud integration issues, with a focus on maintaining system stability and security.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of integration processes, configurations, and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5-10 years of experience in software development and integration, with a strong focus on Python, API development, cloud environments, security, Splunk, and Linux.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Python and experience with other programming languages.
    • Deep understanding of Linux, systems integration, and engineering in secure cloud environments.
    • Extensive knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines.
    • Extensive experience in developing and using RESTful APIs.
    • Experience with Splunk Enterprise Security and Splunk SOAR.
    • Experience with security operations workflow customization.
  • Cloud Expertise: Demonstrated experience in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), cloud-native services, and software integration.
  • Leadership Abilities: Proven experience in leading projects and mentoring junior engineers in a security-focused environment.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in cloud environments.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex security integration concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Certifications

  • Advanced certifications in AWS (AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Developer, AWS DevOpsEngineer).

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. and/or Canada locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S. or Canada hiring location. U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community. Employees are also able to purchase company stock through our Employee Stock Purchase Program.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:

.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.

For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
