Innovation through research and development is key to achieving this goal, and digitalization is an important enabler. Our Digital Research and Development (DRD) organization develops digital solutions for chemical product and application development at Covestro. DRD integrates expertise in materials simulation and computational chemistry, laboratory automation, data science, quantum computing and high-performance computing. Data is at the heart of all our R&D activities and its importance will only increase with the advent of artificial intelligence. Therefore, we are setting up a Data Office within DRD to ensure a strategic approach to data in all R&D areas of Covestro. It will support the organization with expertise in data stewardship, data engineering and data governance.
For this purpose, we are looking for a Data Engineer (m/f/d) with the following tasks and responsibilities:
In this new position, you will be responsible for data integration and data management solutions, especially in the areas of research & development, product management and sustainability, including support for ongoing and future projects
You will analyze business/project requirements and identify relevant data and tools for data provision
In addition, you will develop and implement ETL processes for data integration and cleansing
Further tasks include the design of data models, the maintenance and operation of existing solutions as well as the development of data pipelines for an application that brings together experimental results from all research areas the maintenance and operation of existing solutions as well as the development of data pipelines for an application that brings together experimental results from all research areas
You will also work with cloud architects on the automation, maintenance and monitoring of ETL solutions
You as a person:
Your personality counts for us! You enjoy working with people who are curious, courageous and diverse. You are motivated to drive change and advance our vision of a fully circular economy - - You have a university degree or completed training in mathematics, Computer Science, Science, Engineering (STEM) or a comparable field
You have a good knowledge of data warehouse technologies, including ETL tools, SQL databases, ER diagram design and data modeling techniques, as well as hands-on experience in data warehouse management based on an RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL)
In addition, you should have a practical background and experience in software programming with Java and Python, knowledge of implementing ETL pipelines in Java (preferably Spring) and data lake architectures (Python, Spark)
Preferably, experience with containerization, handling the Linux operating system, especially shell scripting and confident handling of Linux bash commands as well as general knowledge of AWS cloud services such as AWS Batch, ECS Fargate, S3, RDS
A basic understanding of polymer chemistry would also be an advantage, in particular with regard to data acquisition and processing in this field
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English round off your profile and enable you to work effectively with various stakeholders and explain complex data-related concepts clearly and concisely
