What We Offer
The Engineering Manager is responsible for the technical management of both the Wilmington and the East Providence plants. They are responsible for technical support for production, process safety compliance, planning and execution of investments, and identification and implementation of process technology improvements. They manage a team of three; a process engineer, a PCT engineer, and a CI leader.
Major Responsibilities:
- Responsible for evaluating and implementing improvements to processes and equipment to meet compliance, financial, and capacity improvement targets. This includes ensuring that asset utilization, equipment breakdowns, cost, and quality failures are being addressed by the engineering department directly or in support of other departments.
- Manages technical support for production and maintenance in order to ensure reliable and safe operation of the sites. This includes evaluation of production data against plant performance goals related to health and safety, capacity, reliability, quality, and finance.
- Supports maintenance through technical support and evaluation of equipment, Asset Management, FMEAs, and PM Development.
- Fulfills roles set forth by Covestro Corporate Directives either personally or through team resources. These roles include Process Control Technology Expert, Alarm Philosophy Management, Plant Process Safety Caretaker, Technical Asset Manager, and Technical Site Contact Lead. In doing so, the Engineering Manager shares responsibility with other Site Management Team members to make sure the Wilmington and East Providence Sites are compliant with all applicable Corporate Directives.
- Responsible for creating capital project plans to support the above-mentioned improvements and reliability of the plant. The Engineer Manager is responsible for summarizing scope, evaluating options against safety and engineering standards, validating costs, and submitting requests for capital expenditure.
- Owns the process safety review process (PHAs/HAZOPs) for unit revalidations and capital projects at both sites.
- Acts as Technical and Process Safety Expert for the Sites' Management of Change Committees.
- Manage the Engineering Department budget including allocation, authorization, and modification of expenses.
- Evaluate resources and determine requirements for all engineering department activities.
- Support Process Safety Management audits and monitor completion of audit recommendations.
- Contribute to the development and the implementation of the manufacturing plan, in cooperation with the sites' management team.
- Define and implement performance indicators and ensure periodical reporting of actual performance against predefined targets.
- Serves as process expert and plant representative for design, construction, and implementation of small and large capital projects – interfacing, with technical professionals from other disciplines (e.g. PCT, project engineering, environmental and utility services operations, and process development)
- Takes responsibility for creating and maintaining plant technical documentation.
What You Offer
Basic Qualifications:
- Position requires a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field with 6+ years of experience or a Master's Degree in similar field with 4+ years of experience.
- The incumbent should have a good understanding of chemical processes and equipment, PSM (PHA's & MOC processes), root cause analysis, project management, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing people is a plus.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend, and use P&IDs, material balances, equipment and layout drawings, and specifications for complex chemical processes.
- Knowledge of performing, facilitating, and documenting process hazard analysis using detailed systematic approaches is preferred.
- Strong, effective presentation skills.
- Ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to contribute technically as an individual contributor while also leading the continuous improvement initiatives for the sites.
