A Senior Engineer in Azure Cloud & Windows Operations is responsible for managing Windows operating systems, configuring, and maintaining server clusters, and supporting virtual network environments within Azure cloud environments. The role ensures operational stability, performs advanced troubleshooting, and drives improvements across both Windows and Azure systems to maintain reliability, security, and performance.

This includes established Windows engineering responsibilities such as configuring Windows servers, managing Azure Active Directory, troubleshooting OS issues, and maintaining system documentation.

It also incorporates Azure‑focused operational duties such as resource management, monitoring, identity access control, and security, consistent with Azure Administrator role expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain Windows Server OS, including installation, configuration, hardening, and performance tuning.
  • Configure, support, and troubleshoot Windows Server Failover Clusters (WSFC) or similar cluster technologies for high availability.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy services.
  • Implement security patches, backups, and OS level recovery strategies.
  • Lead incident troubleshooting for Windows clusters, OS issues, and Azure network or resource outages.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and guide them in troubleshooting and operational tasks.
  • Maintain system documentation, knowledge articles, and operational SOPs.
  • Contribute to automation initiatives using PowerShell, CLI, or Azure automation tools.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, Electronics/Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 2–3 years of hands-on experience supporting Azure and Windows server environments.
  • Experience in system administration, troubleshooting, patching, and performance tuning.
  • Strong understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Practical experience with Azure services such as Azure VMs, Storage, Azure Monitor.
  • Ability to script using PowerShell for automation and configuration tasks.
  • Familiarity with cloud security, backup strategies, and cost management principles.
  • Knowledge of virtualization and monitoring tools is beneficial.

Preferred Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (AZ 900)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ 104)
  • Microsoft 365 Fundamentals or basic cybersecurity certifications (optional)

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently during incidents.
  • Good communication for cross-team collaboration and stakeholder updates.
  • Ability to mentor juniors and contribute to a collaborative operational environment.
  • Willingness to work in a 24×7 support / shift environment, if required, is essential.
