We are launching one of the most ambitious Customs Transformation programs in DHL Express history—and we are looking for exceptional talent to help shape it.

We are looking for a Director Methodology & Project Tools.
Role Location: Whilst this role has been advertised as located in a specific location, we will also be considering locating this role at other GHO locations in Europe, including Bonn, Brussels, Maastricht and Leipzig.
The Director - Methodology & Project Tools is responsible for defining, governing, and continuously enhancing the end-to-end project methodology and project tool landscape that enables the successful delivery of the Customs Transformation program. The role ensures that all functions follow a standardized, effective, and efficient methodology, while providing governance, enablement, and continuous improvement of tools and processes.
How will you contribute to the success of DHL?
- Lead, manage, mentor and further develop a direct team of (Senior) Managers.
- Indirectly manage, coach and steer the PMO and senior management teams in methodology, and take a active leadership role in the wider Global Programs and Ops community.
- Own, establish and further develop methodology standards (“Cookbook”) and ensure alignment across all functions and teams, determining program success and quality baseline.
- Implement end-to-end transformation delivery and governance, as agile as possible, considering balance of existing methods in organization.
- Ensure continuous improvement of methodology and tools through feedback loops, benchmarking, and industry best practices.
- Provide expert guidance to project teams and act as the central point of contact for methodology- and tool-related inquiries.
- Define and continuously improve the tool stack to supporting end-to-end transformation delivery and program methodology.
- Implement innovative tools in alignment with functional business and IT teams, suitable for agile and large scale transformation delivery, plus classic management reporting.
- Implement processes, aligned with delivery model, program management and delivery and drive harmonized usage across regions and functions.
- Collaborate closely with PMO, and implement program / roadmap reporting mechanism, aligned with detailed delivery tracking in JIRA.
- Contribute to roadmap planning, prioritization, and performance tracking from a methodology & tools perspective.
- Prepare and maintain templates, processes, quality assurance measures, and tool standards used across the program.
- Enable and coach cross-functional teams in applying the end-to-end methodology, including onboarding, training, and continuous support.
- Align, negotiate and convince (if required) team members and management of method standardization.
- Ensure method adherence and compliance throughout the program and across all functions, convincing senior stakeholders to adopt methodology & tool standards.
- Collaborate closely with Change & Communications, and other workstreams to ensure alignment with program governance structures.
Do you have what it takes?
- Relevant university degree, MBA/ Master in Business Administration or similar.
- Exceptionally strong expertise in project methodology frameworks (e.g., PMI, PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum, SAFe).
- 7-10 years of experience in project, program, or portfolio management, preferably in large-scale process & IT transformations.
- Fluency in English; additional languages beneficial.
- Experience in designing cross-functional project methodologies & governance.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Good technical understanding of tool ecosystems such as JIRA & Confluence or equivalent.
- Experience in cross‑functional, global, or complex matrixed organizations.
- Ability to coach and influence cross-functional teams and drive adherence to standards.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to work across hierarchies in complex environments.
- High level of conceptual, analytical, and structural thinking.
