We’re looking for a passionate Senior Backend Engineer with strong JVM experience (Scala or Java) who enjoys solving complex problems, working with real-time data, and building scalable distributed systems. In this role, you’ll help shape the foundations of emnify’s global connectivity platform, powering millions of devices worldwide.

You can join us from our Berlin or Würzburg offices, or work fully remotely from Germany or Poland.

Your Impact

• Collaborate within a cross-functional squad to design, build, test, and operate the services powering emnify’s pricing, charging, and core product lifecycle features.
• Develop reliable, scalable APIs and real-time processing applications using streaming technologies on top of the Apache Kafka ecosystem.
• Contribute to the design and evolution of modern, cloud-native telecommunications services running on AWS.
• Participate in architecture discussions, bringing fresh ideas to improve resilience, performance, and overall system design.
• Deploy, operate, and continuously improve services using CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Terraform) and observability tools such as Grafana and Prometheus.

Your Skills

• Professional experience building production systems with JVM languages, ideally Scala (a significant part of our environment uses Scala).
• Hands-on experience with streaming or data processing technologies such as Kafka Streams, Flink, or Spark.
• Strong background designing, implementing, and maintaining complex backend APIs and services.
• Experience deploying and running services in cloud environments (preferably AWS), using Infrastructure-as-Code and automation.
• A solid understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and scalable service design.
