The Buyer’s main function is to build product lines in tune with divisional merchandise strategies that generate targeted sales, profit and liquidation levels.
The identification of sports/fashion trends, regular communication with the Customer Experience & Sales team, and regular market visits are key elements to building a successful product range. Negotiations with vendors on quantity, delivery deadlines and price are fundamental aspects of the job, geared towards maximizing the company’s profits and surpassing margin goals.
The candidate would ideally have background experience in buying on vertical brands. Part of the job might require having experience in building brands and collections with garment suppliers.
Responsibilities
- Trend & Market Insight. Identify and anticipate fashion trends and consumer behaviors, leveraging market analysis and competitor insights to deliver an offer that exceeds customer expectations. Stay ahead of sneaker culture and regional trends.
- Product Selection & Buying. Select, create, and buy the right assortment for Foot Locker consumers. Drive retail price strategy, manage timelines for trend adoption, and ensure a balanced good/better/best assortment.
- Vendor Partnership & Negotiation. Build strong relationships with vendors to influence product development and secure the best commercial terms. Negotiate cost prices and align vendor strategies with overall business objectives.
- Business Planning & Forecasting. Develop strategic business plans based on performance and future trends. Partner with Planning to manage OTB, create rolling forecasts, and ensure alignment with financial and merchandise strategies.
- In-Season Management. Analyze business and consumer data to recommend actions such as promotions, markdowns, and cancellations. Optimize buys across channels and respond quickly to market shifts.
- Collaboration & Communication. Work cross-functionally and with vendors to support company strategies. Share trend insights, brief vendors, and influence assortments to reflect Foot Locker’s consumer positioning.
Qualifications
- University or College degree in Fashion/Business or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a trend driven, high volume company.
- Fully aware and tuned into the youth market (18-25 years).
- Understanding of the European consumer and regional differences.
- Awareness of what is trending from a “sports fashion” perspective – both from a high fashion, aspirational perspective as well as a local, start up perspective.
- Proficient in Microsoft office – spreadsheet functionality (excel, etc.) required.
- Highly analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Must be opportunistic – can see business opportunities.
- Proven track record in building successful product ranges.
- Experienced & skilled in conducting effective negotiations.
- Business mathematical skills required.
- Ability to work under pressure and with own initiative.
- Sound business/commercial awareness, high concern for effectiveness, entrepreneurial.
- Enthusiastic, goal oriented team player with a desire to join the biggest in the business.
- Flexibility required of normal working hours.
