Foot Locker’s Platform, Store, & Workplace Engineering team is spearheading the next wave of digital transformation across our retail and corporate technology landscapes. The Sr. Manager, Store Technology Engineering will lead a high-performing team responsible for delivering cutting-edge, scalable, and secure technology solutions that enhance the customer and employee experience in over 2,000+ retail stores globally. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with deep expertise in modern retail technology ecosystems, cloud and edge infrastructure, software engineering, and operational excellence.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a world-class global Store Technology Engineering team, defining and executing a forward-looking technology strategy aligned with evolving retail trends and customer expectations.
  • Drive innovation and modernization of store technology platforms, including Point of Sale (POS) systems, mobile and contactless checkout, AI-powered digital signage, IoT-enabled devices, edge computing infrastructure, and advanced payment terminals.
  • Oversees the deployment and lifecycle management of hybrid cloud and edge environments supporting store operations, leveraging container orchestration (Kubernetes), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible), and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Manage Store Technology Technicians and engineers to deliver exceptional operational support, rapid incident resolution, and proactive monitoring using SaaS-based observability and alerting tools.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, retail operations, and business stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable technology solutions, ensuring seamless integration with enterprise systems.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for security, compliance, and data privacy across all store technology platforms.
  • Lead financial planning and budgeting for store technology initiatives, ensuring cost-effective investment in emerging technologies.
  • Develop executive-level dashboards and analytics to measure technology performance, adoption, and business impact.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and agile delivery within the team, mentoring engineers and promoting knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and emerging technologies, driving adoption of AI/ML, augmented reality (AR), and other innovations that enhance retail experiences.
  • Ensure adherence to ITSM frameworks (ITIL v4 preferred), including incident, problem, and change management processes, optimizing for agility and reliability.

Qualifications

Desired Skills & Knowledge

  • Proven leadership experience managing global, multi-disciplinary engineering teams delivering modern retail technology solutions.
  • Deep expertise with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), container orchestration (Kubernetes), serverless computing, and edge computing architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with modern POS systems, mobile checkout solutions, digital signage platforms, IoT device management, and payment technologies.
  • Proficiency in software development and automation using languages and tools such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, C#, SQL, Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab).
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure-as-code, microservices architecture, API management, and SaaS monitoring/alerting solutions (Datadog, New Relic).
  • Experience designing scalable, resilient, and secure systems with cross-region redundancy, zero-trust security models, and compliance with PCI-DSS and data privacy regulations.
  • Ability to influence and build consensus across technical and business teams, with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Track record of coaching and mentoring engineers, fostering innovation, and driving high-impact technology initiatives.
  • Familiarity with ITIL v4 framework and modern ITSM tooling.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to balance trade-offs between speed, cost, and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership experience managing complex, global retail technology initiatives.
  • At least 5 years leading multi-disciplinary technical teams with a focus on modern software and infrastructure engineering practices.
  • Demonstrated success in vendor management, budget oversight, and strategic planning.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% globally.

Benefits

The annual base salary range is $115,000 - $170,000. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary for this position. This role is also eligible to receive short term incentives that align with individual and company performance. Salary will be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Salary is one component of the Foot Locker, Inc. total compensation package, which includes the below.
