Your Role and Responsibilities
At IBM Quantum Software, we are looking for a technical leader for the test team. The ideal candidate is results-driven and can distill test analysis input into a technical test strategy. This tech lead is responsible for defining and designing the test methods and tools, with practical experience to choose and create a set of tools and frameworks that would be used in running tests. Additionally, this individual should also be able to gain a clear understanding of the IBM Quantum software stack and work closely with the reliability team to contribute to the overall health, reliability, and availability of this complex distributed software. The tech lead works closely with the software testers to enable them to conduct tests, analyze the results, and report observations to the software team. The teach lead will also interact with the support team to understand the common patterns of failures and issues in the product and ensure the necessary strategy is defined to address such concerns.
To be successful as a testing technical leader, you should have a working knowledge of distributed systems, cloud native and modern software, test design, the capability to build best of breed testing practice, and the ability to guide the testers in analyzing the results.


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 5 or more years of experience leading testing effort
  • Strong technical abilities to understand a polyglot and distributed complex system.
  • Knowledge of Python and Bash scripting to automate tasks.
  • Experience developing a testing practice and strategy for enabling testing culture across the stack and organization, adopting existing tools or creating custom tools for testing API.
  • Experience with cloud monitoring tools and services such as databases to conduct validation, determine error conditions and collect logs to help the development team to build fixes.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills to interact with software, support and reliability and operations teams to address gaps in quality, and to document processes, practices, guidelines, design, and strategy.
  • Past experience with open-source testing frameworks and tools to build test harnesses to facilitate unit and integration testing.


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Knowledge of programming using Qiskit
  • Knowledge of working with Cloud environments and services, specifically OpenShift
  • Some knowledge of how testing automation can be integrated into CI/CD to enable some facets of continuous testing
  • Knowledge of a test and defect management tool, such as GitHub, Jira, Trello
