The Controls Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, commissioning and support of controls systems for material handling and automation projects, working both on-site and remotely.

    Tasks and Qualifications:

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and deliver the controls aspects of material handling systems for Dematic Enhancement, Modernisation and Upgrade projects, in line with specifications, timelines and budgets.
    • Develop, implement and support hardware and software solutions, including controls design, PLC software and commissioning activities.
    • Provide end-to-end controls solutions, covering electrical design, software design and on-site commissioning.
    • Work effectively on live customer sites, ensuring minimal disruption to operations while respecting project scope and safety standards.
    • Support fault finding, system investigations and controls troubleshooting when required.
    • Perform site supervisory duties on controls projects when necessary.
    • Support the Sales team with controls-related cost estimates, design concepts and spare parts recommendations.
    • Maintain Dematic’s image as a high-quality, professional organisation, adopting an honest, proactive and customer-focused approach.

    Requirements & Qualifications

    • Education to a minimum of HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
    • Hands-on experience in a similar role within an automation-based industry, ideally in automated warehouse or intralogistics environments.
    • Advanced knowledge of PLCs (Siemens and/or Allen Bradley).
    • Strong understanding of fieldbus systems and I/O equipment (e.g. Profibus, Profinet, ASi, TCP/IP).
    • Advanced understanding of controls-related equipment such as barcode scanners, HMIs and variable frequency drives.
    • Working knowledge of industry standards, including the Machinery Directive and compliance requirements.
    • Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, EPLAN) – AutoCAD considered a nice to have.
    • Confident user of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook).

    Travel & Availability

    • Up to 75% travel within Italy is required, depending on project needs.
    • On-call availability may be required when necessary, with a maximum of one week per month.
