JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Summary:
The SAP Basis administrator position provides regional and global support for the SAP business systems used by the organization. The administrator is responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining all the required SAP components need by the business units. The SAP Basis administrator is responsible for monitoring the system performance to ensure the software is running smoothly and responding to potential problems, implementing security measures and performing system upgrades.
Essential Functions:
The primary responsibilities of the IT Basis-Server Analyst during the different phases include:
- Work and communicate directly and frequently with the local and global team members and business associates.
- Support the business in making system design decisions and implement detailed technical process procedures as required. Perform activities related to technical documentation and training with appropriate personnel as required.
- Provide SAP Basis technical support and system administration for all installed modules. Provide SAP system administration for version upgrades as needed.
- Apply SAP hot packs, notes, kernel updates, client refresh and maintenance, and other ongoing support to the SAP system as required.
- Monitor SAP systems and help tune system performance to meet business needs.
- Support testing & maintenance (SAP connections) of interfaces for non-SAP components
- Assist in configuration of integration between R/3 and external systems.
- Develop tests and execute plans/scripts.
- Assist in evaluation of 3rd party software and application add-on’s.
- Report status of work stream to IT Basis Team Lead. Utilize the management tools of the project including but not limited to: Solution Manager, activity planning, change requests, development requests, issue and risk management and scheduled team meetings.
- Resolve issues.
- Help identify dependencies with other implementation activities and ensure that synchronization takes place
- Post conversion support.
Knowledge:
Examples:
- Extensive knowledge of information technology, and a solid understanding of SAP software installation, configuration and maintenance.
- Experience dealing with file interfaces to and from legacy systems.
- Must have excellent organizational skills including planning, scheduling, and coordinating work assignments to meet established completion dates.
- Must be able to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in an evolving environment while contributing to the development of new processes.
- Must be customer focused, involved in long-term trend and emerging requirement analysis, with a strong conceptual understanding of enterprise-wide software.
- Must possess: (1) the ability to identify issues, analyze data and develop solutions to a variety of complex technical problems; (2) excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings; (3) excellent interpersonal skills enabling an effective interface with others; and (4) excellent computer skills. Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
Experience:
- 5 years of hands-on SAP basis support experience with a solid understanding of SAP BASIS fundamentals.
- Experience with systems and database administration.
- Requires skills in multiple technical environments and knowledge of a specific business area.
Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of information technology, and a solid understanding of SAP software installation, configuration and maintenance.
- Professional certification in SAP and SAP Basis.
- Experience with Oracle, UNIX/Linux.
- Experience in server design and system maintenance.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent people and communication skills.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field.
- Must demonstrate a complete understanding of SAP Basis Infrastructure principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
