Job Description

Job Purpose

As the Product Development Manager, you will oversee the planting, maintenance, and evaluation of HeinzSeed’s screening trials within commercial grower fields with the objective of determining if the varieties advanced by the breeding team are adaptable in each region and performs to industry standards. You will leverage local trial outcomes to refine HeinzSeed’s product positioning. You will plan new product introductions and campaigns, while maintaining long-term demand plans. You will ensure local market needs are well represented with the regional sales team in conjunction with the breeding team.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Maintain in-depth understanding of the changing market trends and growers’ needs;

  • Maintain a high-level knowledge of competitors’ key varieties in each segment;

  • Translate trial plans into detailed territory plans;

  • Set variety trial plan, choose proper variety standards, trial seed allocation;

  • Manage to have trial sown and transplanted with key commercial growers and processors;

  • Collect trial results and data and consolidate into Territory Trial Reports;

  • Refine the product positioning for launching varieties and define the key buying factors;

  • Input variety forecasts and make recommendations for Seed Production;

  • Give technical support to dealers, growers, and processors, leverage technical knowledge to the sales team and provide technical support to customer service;

Expected Experience & Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or Horticulture, or equivalent field experience.

  • 3+ years of vegetable seed industry experience with a background in the processing tomato industry is highly preferred.

  • Experience with setting up trials, planting, and evaluations.

  • Ability to implement new market and business development plans to achieve profitable growth.

  • Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with team members, dealers, growers, and related industry stakeholders.

  • Proven project management skills along with solid analytical skills; able to make sound, data-driven business decisions.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience and proficiency in leading small and large group presentations.

  • Ability to influence without authority, coach team members, and build relationships, strong work ethic, high sense of urgency, resilient, and collaborative.

  • Ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.

  • Professional fluency in English with strong written, verbal, and listening skills is a must; multilingual is a plus.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel on a regular basis throughout the assigned territory, and to company/industry meetings as required. Position requires up to 80% field travel within assigned territory.

  • Ability and willingness to work extended hours outdoors during the entire growing season.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet MVR requirements.

Stockton FactoryBase Salary Range: $96,800.00 - $121,000.00

Target Total Cash Range: $121,000.00 - $151,250.00

Target total cash represents this role's annualized cash earning potential at target (base salary + target bonus). Target total cash is contingent on targeted company performance achievement and individual attainment of performance goals. Therefore, target total cash is not guaranteed earnings.

The compensation offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
