AI Architect Lead

ModiFace's patented technology is based on more than a decade of advanced facial recognition research at the University of Toronto and in collaboration with L’Oreal’s Global Research and Innovation teams. Our product offerings include live 3D makeup and skin care simulation, anti-aging/skin-care diagnostics, and live hair colour simulation.

Please note this position is a 12-month contract position covering a maternity leave.

We are looking for an AI Team Lead to help ModiFace innovate and revolutionize the beauty industry. You will work with bright and insightful minds, passionate professionals, and a welcoming community where your creative ideas are exceedingly valued.

Key Responsibilities

People & Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers across all seniority levels
• Foster a culture of psychological safety, continuous learning, and high performance
• Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations
• Manage team capacity, resource allocation, and workload balance
  
  

Technical Oversight

• Maintain a strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, architectures, and best practices
• Provide technical guidance and architectural input without being the primary individual contributor
• Review and challenge technical decisions, ensuring quality, scalability, and innovation
• Stay current with the latest advancements in AI, LLMs, computer vision, and related fields
• Champion engineering best practices: code quality, testing, documentation, and CI/CD
  
  

Delivery & Execution

• Own the planning, prioritization, and delivery of AI initiatives within your team
• Partner with Product, AI Team, and Business stakeholders to define roadmaps
• Remove blockers and create the conditions for your team to move fast and deliver impact
• Track and report on team progress, risks, and key milestones
• Drive continuous improvement in team processes and ways of working
  
  

Strategy & Collaboration

• Collaborate with senior leadership to shape the AI strategy and technical vision
• Represent the AI engineering team in cross-functional forums and leadership meetings
• Build strong relationships with internal and external partners
• Contribute to the broader AI community within the organization
  
  

What We're Looking For

Required

• 5+ yearsof experience in software or AI/ML development
• 2+ yearsin a people management or team lead role
• Solid understanding ofAI/ML concepts(model training, inference, LLMs, computer vision, etc.)
• Knowledge ofMLOpspracticesand AI deployment pipelines
• Proven ability todevelop, andretainhigh-performing technical talent
• Strongcommunicationand stakeholder managementskills
• Experience working inagile/iterative deliveryenvironments
  
  

Nice to Have

• Experience withgenerative AI, diffusion models, or multimodal AI
• Background inbeauty tech, AR/VR, or consumer-facing AI products
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (particularlyGCP)

Compensation

At ModiFace, we believe compensation should be transparent, fair, and reflective of both experience and impact. The total compensation range for this role is $165.000 - 180.000 Compensation is determined based on skills, experience, and the scope and complexity of the role. We value open conversations about compensation and are happy to discuss our approach at any stage of the hiring process.
