ResponsibilitiesJob Overview: To provide and maintain a working environment that is safe and risk-free by safely performing plant and machinery maintenance (electrical, mechanical, facilities) as per PEPSICO and OHS Act requirements, maintenance strategies include Planned, Corrective and Proactive Maintenance.
Equipment Installation and Alignment
- Dismantle, assemble, install, and align machinery and equipment according to specifications and operational requirements.
- Maintain competence to work on blowers, compressors, and facility systems.
Preventive and Corrective Maintenance
- Ensure all plant machinery and equipment are maintained in safe, reliable, and efficient working conditions through routine and preventive maintenance.
- Identify and repair mechanical faults promptly to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
- Complete all scheduled mechanical preventive maintenance job cards on time, maintaining a completion rate of over 95% per month.
- Update and close out scheduled SAP Preventive Maintenance (PM) reports as required.
Safety, Health and Environmental Compliance
- Adhere to all safety standards, regulations, and company procedures during maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with Work at Height (WAH), Hot Work, and Confined Space permits for maintenance personnel and contractors.
- Complete all Quality, Food Safety (QFS), and Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) training and toolbox talks on schedule.
- Report hazards, conduct Gemba walks, close out non-conformances (NCs), and maintain high housekeeping standards.
- Implement and record at least one near-miss report per month to promote proactive safety culture.
Documentation and Reporting
- Accurately record all maintenance work, inspections, and repairs in maintenance logs or the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Ensure all MESS and FCAP findings are addressed and completed within the required time frame.
- Maintain accurate inventory records, ensuring stock items and critical spares are counted, booked, and managed effectively.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for technical and process improvements within maintenance and production operations.
- Implement and execute innovative solutions to enhance equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety.
- Actively contribute ideas and support ongoing continuous improvement and innovation projects.
Cost and Resource Management
- Manage maintenance budget within 2% of the approved annual operating plan (AOP), controlling expenditure on critical spares and stock items.
- Optimize resource usage to achieve cost-effective maintenance operations.
Teamwork and Communication
- Coordinate maintenance activities with production staff and other trades to minimize operational disruptions.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding maintenance priorities, equipment status, and improvement opportunities.
- Matric/N3 Mechanical Trade Theory & Mechanical Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) required.
- Welding knowledge and experience; basic intermediate metal fabrication skills.
- Minimum 5 years’ mechanical maintenance experience; FMCG/FMEA experience advantageous.
- Leadership experience and ability to mentor or supervise team members.
- Experience with SAP, Food Safe Welding, and milling equipment is an advantage.
- Install, repair, and maintain mechanical systems, pumps, conveyors, and rotating equipment.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including fault-finding and component replacement.
- Align shafts, pulleys, sprockets and couplings for efficient machine operation.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Conduct routine inspections, lubrication, and vibration analysis to prevent breakdowns.
- Diagnose equipment failures and recommend corrective actions; strong troubleshooting and MTTR focus.
- Strong understanding of workplace safety standards and environmental compliance.
- Apply Hot Work, Confined Space, and Work-at-Height permit procedures; perform LOTO safely.
- Identify hazards and implement control measures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Prioritize maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and meet deadlines.
- Communicate effectively in reporting faults, handovers, and documentation.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and perform basic rigging safely.
- Perform EHS and Quality compliance tasks as required.
- Willingness to work standby, callouts, and overtime to meet production demands.
- Driver’s licence required.
