Responsibilities
Job Overview: To ensure maximum plant availability, reliability and optimal manufacturing performance through the effective execution of electrical and mechanical preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance. The role is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing electro‑mechanical equipment, attending to breakdowns, executing planned maintenance and safely commissioning equipment to required engineering and food safety standards. The position supports continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving equipment efficiency, reducing downtime and enhancing asset life, while complying with all EHS, GMP and statutory requirements.
Fault Diagnosis & Breakdown Response
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults using structured problem‑solving techniques (e.g. 5 Whys, RCA).
- Interpret electrical diagrams, PLC I/O signals (basic level) and mechanical drawings to identify failures.
- Respond to plant breakdowns to restore equipment functionality within required MTTR targets.
- Escalate complex faults to relevant specialists where required.
Planned, Preventative & Predictive Maintenance
- Execute scheduled preventative and condition‑based maintenance in line with maintenance plans and OEM standards.
- Perform inspections, adjustments, replacements and testing on electro‑mechanical equipment to prevent unplanned downtime.
- Record all maintenance activities accurately in the CMMS.
Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance
- Maintain and repair motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, valves, sensors and basic control systems.
- Perform electrical installations, terminations, testing and fault finding within scope of a Millwright trade.
- Assist with equipment modifications, upgrades and installations.
Equipment Commissioning & Continuous Improvement
- Assist with commissioning and re‑commissioning of equipment following maintenance, breakdowns or projects.
- Identify improvement opportunities to reduce downtime, improve reliability and enhance safety.
- Participate in root cause investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Adhere to all EHS, food safety, AIB and statutory requirements.
- Ensure lock‑out, tag‑out, electrical safety and permit procedures are followed at all times.
- Close out safety actions, near misses and audit findings within agreed timelines.
Operational & Team Support
- Provide technical support to production teams to optimize equipment performance.
- Assist with training and mentorship of apprentices and operators.
- Provide standby, weekend and after‑hours support as operationally required.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of work performed.
- Follow safety and compliance standards.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified Trade Tested Millwright.
- N4 Engineering qualification (Electrical/Mechanical) or equivalent.
- Minimum 3–5 years post–trade test experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault‑finding capability.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and basic PLC logic.
- Experience working on motors, drives, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Basic welding and fabrication skills (advantageous).
- Familiarity with preventative and predictive maintenance methodologies.
- Knowledge of EHS, food safety and statutory engineering standards.
- Computer literate with working knowledge of CMMS (Maintenance Management Systems)/SAP and MS Office.
- Accountable for assigned technical assets and plant equipment.
Physical
- Ability to lift up to 12 – 25 kg and work in industrial environments.
Other
- Medical fitness is compulsory.
