This position contributes to the success of the PBUS by ensuring regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, and DOT), accident prevention and after injury management. This person will work to support implementation of the PBNA EHS Management System at the Newport News, VA manufacturing location. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in employee safety and environmental regulations as well as have OSHA, EPA, and DOT compliance experience and be highly skilled at implementing processes that will lead to sustained EHS performance improvements.
- Implement, execute, ensure compliance with the Pepsi - North American Beverages EHS/DOT policies and procedures, and all federal, state, and local OSHA/EPA/DOT (i.e. Lockout, Haz Com, Machine Safety, SARA, RCRA, etc.)
- Manage local EHS budget
- Lead the development and implementation of the EHS Annual Operating Plans and EHS Action Plans for the location
- Achieve annual targets rates for Lost Time, Recordable, Severity, Collision and Environmental
- Ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety and environmental regulations
- Develop, implement, execute, and manage strategies to prevent workplace injuries, vehicle incidents and environmental incidents
- Demonstrate solid employee relations experience, interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills

- Demonstrate professional maturity and ability to act as a change leader by influencing all levels of the organization to drive continuous improvement in safety performance
- Conduct EHS activities such as training/auditing/assessing to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory agency requirements, Zero Zone Management System standards, Emergency Response and internal PepsiCo EHS procedures
- Perform risk assessments and assist in the implementation of effective physical and/ or behavioral control measures. Recognize and verify the effectiveness of in-place control measures
- Identify unsafe equipment operation and conditions while demonstrating knowledge of appropriate corrective action for unsafe conditions or equipment use
- Exercise a leadership, coordination, and communication role with the location leadership to drive continuous EHS improvement across the location
- Complete root cause analyses and develop corrective action plans to address root basic causes and management system weak-spots through the use of industry-recognized cause analysis techniques
- Serves as subject matter expert (SME) for key environmental programs, such as wastewater, ammonia, emergency response, etc.
- Provides templates and other tools to assists Sectors in the development and deployment of facility-specific environmental programs (e.g., Emergency Response, Spills, Stormwater, etc.) and external environmental reports to regulatory agencies
- Provides proactive and reactive environmental compliance and risk management program consultation to all Global Sectors and sites
- Builds and delivers environmental risk management and compliance programming tools and training materials
- Tracks and reviews environmental program performance metrics and incident data and assists the Senior Director with updating the strategic plans
- Develops and delivers environmental compliance and risk management training programs for sites in all Global Sectors and multiple environmental program elements in various media
- Works with Sectors to develop annual environmental operating plans and track progress-to-plan
- Works with PepsiCo Legal teams to craft and strategize on potential Notice of Violations, exceedances, and other like regulatory activities
- Evaluates capital and innovation projects to determine environmental impacts, environmental compliance requirements, and environmental risk control needs
- Works with Global Sector EHS Managers as needed to support application for and review of environmental permits, as required, assuring on-going facility compliance and operating permits
- Participates on environmental significant incident investigations, root cause analyses, and incident corrective actions, including tracking to closure
- Supports Global EHS environmental and EHS audit processes
- Supports roll-out of environmental information/task management systems, such as MyEHS across Global Sectors
- Selects and manages environmental consultants and contractors to achieve Global environmental program goals
- Represents environmental interests (e.g., compliance, permitting, waste management, risk management program implementation, Early Management, Management of Change, etc.) to PepsiCo functional teams and Sector leadership.
- Provides input to the PepsiCo Legal Department via legal review submittals for environmental issues
- Identifies new environmental regulatory obligations and other requirements through a regulatory applicability analysis (RAA) process
- Coach and mentor other Environmental team members within the organization and use strong influencing skills around EHS goals/values
- Create and deliver training materials and communications to expand capability in the defined subject matter.
Compensation and Benefits:
- The expected compensation range for this position is between $110,700 - $185,250.

- Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 12% of annual salary paid out annually.

- Bachelor’s degree Required
- 3 - 5 years of increasingly responsible work experience in the safety or environmental field.
- Go To Market: travel 30-40% of the time
- Manufacturing & Wearhouse: 60% to 100% on site
- EHS Management experience in a related industry, including consumer packaged goods, distribution/transportation, manufacturing or grocery industry
- Knowledge and experience with EHS Management systems and their deployment
- EHS auditing work experience
- Solid working knowledge of EHS regulatory compliance
- Displays strong problem solving, organizational and analytical skills.
- Strong project management skills including financial responsibility, budgeting, scheduling, vendor management, execution and start-up/commissioning, managing multiple concurrent projects/programs.
