PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
The Business AI team inside of the Office of the CEO is a technical center of excellence which delivers core AI capabilities for consumption by product teams and organizations across all of SAP. We build the latest in AI/ML technologies including applications leveraging large language models as well as AI/ML features for the business applications space. We pioneer game-changing solutions in close collaboration with SAP units, customers, partners, startups and research collaborations with academic institutions. By exploring unconventional ideas and developing inspiring proofs of concepts, we push the state-of-the-art in AI and its application to businesses to provide SAP with foresight into future trends.
The AI team seeks to make all business applications intelligent. We build out new lighthouse applications using AI/ML, bring these capabilities into existing applications, and empower all of SAP, customers and partners with ML services on SAP’s cloud platform.
EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
What you will do:
As a senior leader for AI and Deep Learning, you will be responsible for building out SAP’s Generative AI capabilities for a variety of use cases, including Conversational AI capabilities for a Digital Assistant for all SAP Enterprise software solutions, benchmarking open source and closed source LLMs across various Enterprise tasks & fine-tuning LLMs & Foundation models to build solutions to challenging problems outside the scope of base foundation models. The AI team’s mission is to build AI capabilities into business applications to empower SAP’s customers to accomplish more with our software. Business prioritization, technical feasibility, understanding the state of the art, and collaboration are key skills needed to be successful in this role.
You will define, build and drive Generative AI innovations within the Central AI team, building up and leading a team of dedicated experts in ML/DL/AI and applied researchers with the goal of leveraging existing AI solutions and augmenting them with your team’s innovations and use that to drive user adoption of AI features in SAP’s lines of business, maximizing the impact of deep learning and Gen AI for SAP globally. You will be leading a multi-disciplinary team of Data Scientists and Software Engineers based in two locations, Palo Alto & Singapore.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
What you will bring:
- Graduate degree in Computer Science related field with strong record of shipping technologies in deep learning, generative AI, and also other areas of machine learning (natural language processing preferred, image/video/speech a plus for multi-modal innovations)
- Track record of building impactful products and prototypes
- Strong practical understanding of leading deep learning frameworks
(e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- Proven ability to handle senior internal stakeholders and customers
- Experience building and leading teams to top performance
- Strong desire to overcome obstacles and make your findings and research benefit SAP's customers
- Ability and desire to represent SAP’s Machine Learning with superior written and oral communication skills in English
- Minimum of 10+ years of post-graduate, international professional experience in research and/or software development
- Extensive knowledge of Generative AI and large language models
- Previous experience successfully building and leading teams of 40+ employees, including management of managers.

Compensation Range Transparency: SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP’s commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is 263,800 - 609,200 USD. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
