The network engineer role within our team is participating in various network infrastructure and network security projects within Siemens, including supporting internal IT, Siemens Business Units and other Siemens groups and departments.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing consultation and the conception of solution modules for the design of applications, networking and telecommunication infrastructure and solutions of the Siemens teams worldwide.
  • Testing of network products, solutions and services used through many industries.
  • Development of new technologies, tools and methods to connect IT and industrial equipment while considering present and future security threats.
  • Design and secure large industrial and infrastructure solutions.
  • Review documents received from different service providers and provide feedback. For example, network topologies, infrastructure architecture, protocols, etc;
  • Provide guidance to service providers with regards to design and planning of network and security infrastructure.
  • SD-WAN and SD-LAN architecture review and monitoring.
  • Deploy and configure advanced network development environments.
  • Development operations and configuration management on different architectures.
  • Identify new opportunities for innovation and value-delivery;
  • Provide guidance for configuration, installation and operation of routers, switches, and firewalls, in a complex, high-availability, global environment.
  • Work directly with managed service providers to design, install, and maintain managed network services.
  • Evaluate new technology and present opportunities to improve the future network architecture, performance, and network services.
  • Maintain vigilance and drive on global projects.
  • Translate technical requirements from projects and change this into specifications for internal and external delivery parties.
  • Perform engineering activities regarding brokerage, integration, implementation, publication and deployment of new and/or network and IT solutions in an efficient and automated way.
  • Ensure applications, IT solutions and platforms are secure, scalable and operate autonomous, providing the agreed availability and capacity supported with adequate IT continuity, contingency and resilience.
  • Document the technical design, configuration and test scenarios of the software solution.
  • Maintain in depth technical engineering knowledge regarding applications and infrastructure and provide support.

Key technical skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of overall functionality of LAN, WAN, network security and data center technologies.
  • Experience with Cisco routing, switching and the security portfolio.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco ISE; relevant experience with NAC (802.1x), Profiling, Posturing is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Cisco SDA and understanding of micro-segmentation.
  • General experience in routing, switching and wireless networks.
  • Firewall Management/design/architecture: NAT / IPSEC / Access Lists / Proxy / IPS / IDS / URL filtering.
  • Network Design, Architecture and Troubleshooting in a software defined networking environment.
  • Experience in DDI (DNS / DHCP / IPAM) is a plus.
  • Expertise with SD-WAN technologies is a bonus.
  • Project management skills and certifications are nice to have.
  • Optional: knowledge of ITIL processes.

Education:

  • MSc degree in computer science or similar, preferably with a focus on networking, IT, cyber security, etc. (or relevant experience);
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of demonstrable experience in Networking with active involvement in relevant projects
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, including security terminology; proficiency in German a plus; good communication and presentation skills (both written and oral).

  • Ability to work in a self-guided and result-oriented fashion, with a clear desire to become an acknowledged technical expert in your own area of expertise.
