About the Role Software AG is seeking an experienced, customer-focused, and technically capable Solution Engineer to support enterprise sales activities across the French market. The Solution Engineer serves as the technical and business partner to the Account Executive, helping customers understand how Software AG solutions can address their business, application, data, integration, and modernization challenges. This role combines technical expertise, business understanding, and strong communication skills. The successful candidate will work closely with prospective customers, existing customers, partners, and internal teams throughout the sales cycle—from initial discovery and qualification through solution design, demonstrations, technical evaluations, Proofs of Concept or Value, and contract completion. The ideal candidate is curious, analytical, self-motivated, and comfortable engaging with both technical specialists and senior business stakeholders. They are able to translate complex customer requirements into clear, outcome-oriented solutions and are passionate about helping organizations modernize mission-critical IT environments while preparing for cloud- and AI-enabled transformation. Key Responsibilities Partner closely with Account Executives to develop account strategies, opportunity plans, and technical engagement approaches. Support Software AG’s business and revenue objectives by providing high-quality technical guidance throughout the enterprise sales cycle. Participate in customer and prospect qualification by assessing technical requirements, business priorities, existing environments, and potential solution fit. Lead technical discovery sessions with business and technology stakeholders. Analyze customer requirements and recommend the most appropriate Software AG solutions and architectures. Translate technical capabilities into clear business outcomes and customer value. Create and deliver tailored product demonstrations, presentations, technical workshops, prototypes, and solution briefings. Design and execute Proofs of Concept and Proofs of Value that demonstrate how Software AG solutions address specific customer needs. Support qualified prospects and customers during technical evaluations, including configuration, training, sample development, third-party integration, troubleshooting, and best-practice guidance. Respond to the technical sections of Requests for Information and Requests for Proposal. Present proposed architectures and solution approaches to enterprise architects, developers, infrastructure teams, security teams, and senior technology leaders. Identify technical risks, dependencies, integration requirements, and success criteria during the sales process. Collaborate with Sales, Product Management, Professional Services, Customer Success, Partners, Marketing, and Research and Development teams. Gather customer and prospect feedback and communicate relevant insights to Product and Research and Development teams. Collect and share competitive intelligence from the field. Exchange best practices, technical knowledge, reusable assets, and customer insights within the Solution Engineer community. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Software AG solutions, relevant enterprise technologies, market trends, and the assigned business line. Participate in customer meetings, partner engagements, industry events, conferences, and internal cross-functional discussions. Represent Software AG professionally and credibly in all customer and partner interactions. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience. Experience in enterprise software pre-sales, solution consulting, technical consulting, professional services, or a related customer-facing technical role. Experience supporting complex enterprise software sales cycles. Ability to understand a customer’s business objectives, technical environment, operational challenges, and expected outcomes. Strong technical discovery, solution design, presentation, and demonstration skills. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience creating and delivering product demonstrations, technical workshops, prototypes, or Proofs of Concept. Programming or software development experience. Strong understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure, network architecture, distributed computing, and application environments. Experience with programming and development technologies such as Java, C, C++, SQL, or HTML. Understanding of internet software development concepts, integration patterns, and enterprise application architectures. Familiarity with operating systems including Unix or Linux and enterprise mainframe environments such as IBM z/OS. Familiarity with relational or enterprise database technologies such as SQL databases or Adabas. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong presentation skills and confidence interacting directly with customers. Ability to create and deliver clear, concise, and persuasive technical briefings. Strong logical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities. Target-oriented, accountable, and focused on supporting successful business outcomes. Able to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative international team. Willingness and ability to continuously develop technical knowledge, product expertise, and professional qualifications.
