Your responsibilities

SUMMARY: Support the designs and development of new products and product improvements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Co-responsible for all design related activities on specific projects:
    • Print dimensions / specifications / Datum definition for manufacturing & product function
    • Product testing / validation
    • Define new testing equipment needs
  • Support new design development and packaging study with Product Development Design Lead Engineer, conduct design feasibility/manufacturability investigation with the supplier base.
  • Responsible for following Presta Product Life Cycle process & maintain PLM database at the released level.
  • Manage BOM for prototype build, support the prototype RFQ process, and conduct (or supervise) prototype build.
  • Develop test plan to validate new design ideas, conduct (or supervise) testing and Design Of Experiment.
  • Lead corrective activities (8D process) for any design failure or robustness improvement action.
  • Summarize tests/FEA/Stack-up/etc results into presentation and present the overview to the project team, propose and define next development steps.
  • Understand warranty issues and the impact the design has to it. Is familiar with the historic of the design changes, supplier issues & processing issues. Reports on risk assessment and design robustness status.
  • Manage product/components interface matrix, generate tolerance stack-up. Ensure product fit and function, review or generate DFMEA and up-date engineering documentation accordingly.
  • Understand project timing and its impact on Engineering tasks deliverables.
  • Problem solving: Is familiar with problem solving tools and methodic. Reports on problem solving status.
  • Strong knowledge of die casting, stamping and plastic component design and manufacturing processes.

Your profile

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field with 2 to 5 years experience in the automotive industry or similar industry. Advanced Engineering Degree is a plus. Experience using DOE, FEA, Statistics, problem solving tools, APQP, FMEA, Poka Yoke Design/Design for manufacturability, and AIAG automotive standards.
