Job Description

Join us at Zendesk, where we're on a mission to power exceptional service for every person on the planet. We're accelerating that ambition by building products rooted in AI, automation, and intelligent customer experiences, because behind every interaction lies an opportunity to make a human connection.

We’re seeking a Frontend Tech Lead (Staff Software Engineer) to join the Workforce Management product team - Zendesk’s AI-powered solution for forecasting, scheduling, and agent performance tracking. In this role you’ll design and deliver scalable interfaces that power features used by thousands of customers and millions of end users, helping organizations optimize workforce efficiency through reliable, data-driven automation.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead design and delivery of scalable, maintainable frontend systems using JavaScript (ES6+), React, Redux, and TypeScript across the Workforce Management product.

  • Define and evolve frontend architecture, best practices, and component libraries that power multiple teams and products (including monorepo patterns and design system integration).

  • Drive performance, accessibility, and quality improvements — set performance budgets, optimize rendering and bundle sizes, and implement robust testing (unit, integration, E2E).

  • Own complex features end-to-end: translate product requirements into technical designs, estimate, implement, and validate in production.

  • Mentor and coach engineers across the squad and adjacent teams; raise the bar on code quality through thoughtful code reviews and shared learning.

  • Collaborate closely with Product, UX, Data Science (AI/forecasting), and Backend teams to ensure frontend solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements.

  • Proactively identify and reduce technical debt; propose and lead cross-team initiatives to improve developer productivity and product reliability.

What you bring to the role

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 5+ years focused on frontend development using React and TypeScript.

  • Deep, hands‑on experience building modern web applications with JavaScript (ES6+), React, Redux (or comparable state management), and TypeScript.

  • Strong track record of delivering large, complex features and influencing frontend architecture in high‑scale products.

  • Solid experience with testing frameworks (Jest, RTL), performance tooling, and observability for frontend systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, lead technical discussions, and make pragmatic tradeoffs between speed and long‑term maintainability.

  • Excellent communication skills — you can explain technical concepts to engineers, product managers, and designers.

  • A customer-first mindset and curiosity for how frontend choices impact user outcomes (UX, accessibility, reliability).

  • Demonstrated history of mentoring engineers and influencing engineering practices across teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Styled Components, Ant Design, or other component libraries and design systems.

  • Experience working in a monorepo (e.g., Yarn workspaces, Lerna, Nx) and contributing to shared frontend packages.

  • Familiarity with GraphQL, observability tooling, and performance budgeting.

  • Prior exposure to AI/ML-backed products or workforce management / contact center domains.

  • Experience contributing to or managing design systems at scale.

Our tech stack

  • Backend: Go, PHP, Laravel

  • Frontend: JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Redux

  • Data & APIs: PostgreSQL, MySQL, ClickHouse, Kafka, Redis, REST, GraphQL Cloud & Infra: AWS, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker
