Background & Purpose of the Job

The North America Software Engineer – will work with peer data engineers to develop data & analytical solutions to support product analytics managers and data scientists. This role will be partnering with internal data scientists, product managers and external stakeholders across the business to deliver advanced analytics. The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with vast hands-on experience end to end development of web applications, data platforms, and solutions.

Who You Are & What You’ll Do

Develop and lead the discovery phase of large software engineering projects by collaborating with cross-functional teams to determine project strategy; interpreting strategy into sustainable architecture and solutions; driving prototype development to ensure concept is feasible; and implementing prototypes to validate projects. Leads project teams for engineering projects by providing direction regarding project plan; identifying short- and long-term solutions and timelines; providing guidance regarding project issues or roadblocks; reviewing and approving proposed solutions; implementing new architectural patterns; and performing design and code reviews of changes. Leads medium- to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects for Engineering by collaborating with cross-functional teams to determine project requirements; gathering requested information (for example, design documents, product requirements, wire frames); writing and developing code; developing user interface solutions; conducting testing to ensure solution is functional; communicating project status and roadblocks to team members and stakeholders; determining solutions to issues; enhancing design to prevent reoccurrence of defects across multiple devices; ensuring on-time delivery; and collaborating with project managers to provide guidance on project implementation plan.

In this role you’ll be working closely with passionate and driven Data Engineers, Software Engineers, Data Scientists and Product Managers. They will span across various functional groups across the enterprise. You will be in contact with a wide range of great people. As a Software Engineer, in partnership with diverse team of smart, intelligent, and creative people. This allows us to be a driving force for building first-class solutions for North America Data & Analytics team and its business partners, working on development projects related to customer development, supply chain, digital commerce, consumer behavior and web analytics among others.

What You Need to Succeed

  • BS/BA in Computer Science or related field plus 3 to 5 years work experience

  • Experience with JVM languages (Java, Kotlin, Scala), Hadoop and Spark

  • Experience in building large scale Web Services and Backend Applications using Java/J2EE, RESTful Web Services, HTTP and JSON technologies

  • Deep understanding of design patterns, and experience working in a layered architecture with stakeholders and architecting the systems

  • Knowledge of core CS concepts such as common data structures and algorithms

  • Experience with modern DevOps principles and continuous delivery

  • Experience with more than one programming language (Python, Java, Scala, JavaScript)

  • Experience with Azure, GCP, AWS, or private cloud

  • Experience with the serverless framework and serverless architecture.

  • Experience with containerization and container platforms. (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).

  • Experience with distributed NoSQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB, etc.)

  • Large scale distributed systems experience, including scalability and fault tolerance.

  • Experience in mentoring engineers and influencing other engineers across the organization

  • Good problem-solving attitude and analytical skills

Pay: The pay range for this position is $83,200 to $124,700. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs. Bonus: This position is bonus eligible. Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible. Benefits: Unilever employees are eligible to participate in our benefits plan.
