Role Profile

Unilever's DataLake is a core data ecosystem that plays a crucial role in the company's digital transformation. Based on Microsoft Azure technologies, it provides a centralized platform for storing, managing, and analyzing data from various sources. The Data Lake program aims to democratize access to all internal and externally available data in a secure and trusted way. This will enable the organization to build advanced data and analytics capabilities, including predictive modeling, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. By doing so, Unilever can improve productivity, deliver savings, drive growth, and become more data intelligent. As a part of the Universal Data Lake, the DevOps & Service Manager role is a critical position responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of IT services. The role involves managing the delivery of IT services within the agreed scope and service level agreements. The DevOps & Service Manager also ensures that application uptime is maintained, and greater customer satisfaction is achieved. This is accomplished by implementing best practices for service management, monitoring, and incident management. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to identify opportunities for service improvement and implement them. Overall, the DevOps & Service Manager plays a vital role in ensuring that Unilever's DataLake program is a success. Through their efforts, the organization can harness the power of data to drive innovation, improve operational efficiency, and deliver value to customers.

Key Accountabilities

Following are the verticals that a Delivery & DevOps manager would be responsible for:

  • Application Support and Maintenance – Ensuring our services are available and fit for purpose.
  • Stakeholder management – Build working relationships with Data CoE, SMEs and downstream consumers.
  • Vendor management – Managing relationships with the Service provider.
  • Resilience and Availability – Ensure Availability and Resilience of Applications and Platforms.

Driving value with Service Management

  • Ensure that the Service Providers deliver IT services (Application Support and Application Maintenance) by the agreed scope & service level agreement (SLA) for UDL, by all applicable performance metrics, including SWOT, KPIs, user satisfaction targets, operating level agreements and underpinning contracts.
  • Ensure that Service Providers resolve incidents and issues efficiently and effectively that the root cause analysis studies are conducted, and clear improvement plans are identified.
  • Ensure that service requests (SRs) are implemented according to the agreed SLA.
  • Establishes problem resolution procedures and defines consequences of non-compliance.
  • Works with the required resolution teams and Stakeholders during issue escalation for coordination, planning, and reviews
  • Work with Service Providers to plan for progressively reducing incidents, and improving the availability of services and data; thereby increasing user/client satisfaction.

Vendor Management

  • Engage with Third Party Vendor teams to deliver Service Levels.
  • Ensure the right level of skills and knowledge always exists within teams to be able to run Application Support operations.
  • Partner with Suppliers to together deliver a World Class DevOps Operation Organization.
  • Proactively manage risks and communications

Resilience and Availability

  • Bring in or operate proactive measures to measure service performance.
  • Plan for and ensure Proactive Application maintenance to prevent unplanned disruption due to incompatibility of software versions & incomplete/untested release packages
  • Ensure high availability of Applications to the Unilever business by designing and deploying high-quality maintenance plans, covering backup, archiving, housekeeping, health checks, job runs, administration, etc.
  • Working in coordination with the Program Innovation teams and managing the transition of application management responsibility from the Innovation team to the Application Maintenance Team.
  • Ensure minimal business disruption. In case of a disruption, resolve the issue and the root cause with less downtime.

Innovate, Improvise, Deliver and Impart Benefits

  • Identify innovative solutions with new and/or existing toolsets to deliver cost-effective, efficient, robust and resilient solutions to BI Landscape. Engage with Technology Counterparts and scout external markets for cutting-edge solutions in the market.
  • Own innovation in solutions within the platform. Deliver purposeful innovation in solutions, processes and controls.
  • Manage and deliver the sprints via the Solution factory team.
  • Maximize Benefits, sweat assets, identify unused capabilities within the toolset and maintain optimal utilization of features against capital invested in assets/licenses.

Essential Experience

  • Education - Bachelor’s in engineering, Computer Science required, and Masters/MBA preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of Azure technologies and cloud architectures to support Ingestion solutions.
  • Relevant professional certification (MS Azure, Cloud, ITIL, CMMI, SAP Certification or PMP) will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of areas such as software development lifecycle,
  • Deep understanding of Agile/DevOps development lifecycle from conception to delivery
  • Is familiar with all aspects of Application Support & Maintenance and Service Delivery.
  • Expert verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to effectively manage project communications and stakeholder expectations at all levels of the organization.
  • Self-motivated problem solver; able to thrive in a dynamic and customer-focused environment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make, and take responsibility for, sound and far-reaching decisions on major technical and service delivery issues.
  • Has the experience and cultural awareness required to work effectively with a global team.
  • Proactive Attitude to learn and explore new developments in the field of cloud/azure which is beneficial to Unilever.
  • Overall 6+ years of experience in IT

Desirable Experience

  • Has extensive previous experience at Unilever or a similar organization in IT application support and maintenance processes, operating ITIL / PRISM processes and working with external support relationships.
  • Knowledge in IT strategy, IT process excellence, Six Sigma, IT portfolio management, ERP packages.
