What you’ll do
The Cloud Platforms Architect plays a pivotal role within the Platforms Technology team, driving the successful implementation of our cloud strategy and associated reference architectures. This role focuses on creating comprehensive playbooks and blueprints, enabling solution designers and operational teams to seamlessly adopt and manage cutting-edge technologies. As a technical leader, the Cloud Platforms Architect is instrumental in supporting our strategic initiatives on cloud platforms, ensuring alignment between the Architecture and Strategy function and the rest of the organisation. By doing so, they enable Vodafone Technology to effectively realise the defined target state architecture, ensuring a seamless transition to a highly optimized and innovative cloud-based infrastructure.
This role will help accelerate cloud adoption through simplifying the ability for solution owners to incorporate the technology into their designs while also allowing them to explain the strategic benefits of doing so.
The Cloud Platforms Architect is a senior technical subject matter expert and design authority for Cloud services, tooling and platforms. They will peer with Product, Platform, Engineering and Infrastructure teams and create a continuous feedback process that enables the target architecture to adjust and maintain its desired state or achieve new required goals.
Who you are
Key accountabilities and decision ownership:
- Work with engineering teams to define and develop a library of deployable and documented cloud design patterns, blueprints and templates, based on the Vodafone application portfolio, as a basis for the repeated deployment of services to the cloud
- Development of innovative, effective cloud platform components ensuring consistency of approach between similar vendor technologies
- Be a trusted advisor to the wider organization for cloud end-to-end architecture, including Azure, AWS, GCP and future providers, networking, provisioning, and management
- Advocate the cloud architecture vision, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems across stakeholder and consumer communities alongside the facilitation and assurance of technical decisions – in line with our platforms & cloud strategy
Core competencies, knowledge and experience:
- Proven experience in communicating complex technical strategy up to C-Level leadership
- Deep knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability). Experience with Azure is essential with AWS, GCP and Hybrid implementations also preferred.
- Experience in FinOps concepts and an ability to communicate economic benefits of cloud which is essential for adoption.
- Ability to take ownership of problems, ask relevant questions, be proactive, take initiative, and drive for improvements and changes in approach
- Ability for driving decisions collaboratively, resolving conflicts and ensuring follow through with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Must have technical / professional qualifications:
- Azure certification (AZ-400 or AZ-305 preferred) and strong on the job experience.
- CI/CD & DevOps practices, configuring tools “as-code”;
- Infrastructure and Platform components (network, load balancers, VMs, Kubernetes) and Microservice architectures;
- Cloud Security, IAM, Cloud Authentication;
- SAFe Agile methods including use of associated collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence, ADO etc)
- Strong interest in Generative AI adoption
